The Outlook Express email client is built around the DBX file format or .dbx extension. The Outlook Express stores email messages in this format only. These files are located in the store folder. For determining the Store Folder location a user would have to click the Store Folder button at Tools>Options>Maintenance in Outlook Express. The different set of DBX files can be viewed at store folder in Windows Explorer. The messages from every section would be having the .dbx extension. It contains a structure of all news groups, mail folders and some synchronization data. The DBX files are vulnerable to many errors & corruptions. For rectifying these errors a user would have to use the repair DBX tool.

Technical issues associated with the DBX files

A user faces huge problems while moving the Outlook Express messages to other systems or computer. So while copying the DBX files from one store folder to another the folders.dbx files shall also be copied.

The DBX files are vulnerable to many external events i.e. abrupt shutdown, network breakdown, virus attack, hard disk failure, etc. In such a situation various errors appear while accessing the files Bad file name or number like Disk Full, Permission Denied, Path/ File Error, Out of Memory, Object Error, Disk Full, File Already Exists, File Already Open, OLEXP: Err Msg, etc. These errors make the files inaccessible.

The dbx format is a bit heavy format than others. The heavy size of Inbox.dbx, Sent Items.dbx and Deleted Items.dbx can make the Outlook Express slog.

So for avoiding data loss an Outlook Express user should prepare backups of the DBX files. Otherwise, to repair DBX files a user can refer the Kernel for repair DBX file software. This tool can restore the Outlook Express files from any kind of situation.

The Outlook Express run time error is caused mainly by four reasons TSR discrepancy, software compatibility issue, virus attack and memory corruption. This error occurs during opening a file, downloading a file or sending a file. This error can also make the files inaccessible and shut the Outlook Express.

If the DBX files are not compatible with a third party software then the runtime error can appear on screen. Outlook Express will show this error even if there is a virus or software attack. These are some examples of runtime error: Bad file name or number, Disk full, Permission denied, Path/ File error, Out of memory, Object error, Disk full, File already exists, File already open, OLEXP: Err Msg, etc.

The OLEXP: Err Msg says that “this program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. If the problem persists, contact the program vendor.” It provides the following details “MSIMN caused an invalid page fault in module Msoe.dll at address” Or “Outlook Express could not be started (0x800c012e error).”

For rectifying this error, point on start, place the cursor on Find and select files or folders. Search for .dbx files in the C drive. View the DBX files which have been searched. Right click on each DBX file and remove the read only attributes from it. Select OK and apply the changes and close the program.

Now check whether the files are opening or not. If the files are not opening then it means that there is some serious problem in the DBX files. In that case, you can salvage the files with DBX repair Software. By using this tool even a novice can reacquire the corrupted, damaged, deleted or impaired DBX files.

It quickly performs complex algorithms and presents the recovered files in a tree. From this tree a user can save all the files, or save only selected files in DBX or EML format. It is compatible with Windows 7, Vista, XP, 2003, 2000 operating system and Outlook Express 4.0, 5.0, 5.5, 6.0 versions.

The messages in your inbox are gone! Or Outlook Express denies starting up! How do you repair Outlook Express? Here we will try to fix all these strange situations. In Outlook Express, email losses are largely attributed to DBX corruption. Outlook Express stores email messages in databases that have a .dbx file extension. Each Outlook Express folder (even subfolders) has a database associated with it; thus if you have 10 folders, you have 10 databases. The databases have the same name as the folders thus the drafts folder has a database called drafts.dbx. Therefore, we need to repair DBX file in order to repair Outlook Express.

There are possibly two initial ways to repair DBX file database. The first method is the compacting method and the second is transfer method.

Using the Compacting Utility

Try to compact and remove any inconsistency or redundant information within the DBX file by the following steps.

Click Work Offline on the File menu to terminate any transmission

In the Folder list, click on Outlook Express to ensure that no email or news folder is opened
Close the Folder list

On the File menu, select Folder, and then select Compact All Folders.

If an error occurs, close Outlook Express, re-open and repeat the process

Transfer Method

This method tries to move all emails from a corrupted folder into a working folder. For this:

Open Outlook Express and right click on Local Folders and select New Folder

Type in: backup and hit Enter

Select all the emails in the corrupted folder [control + A]

Right click on the highlighted mails and select Move To Folder

Select the backup folder and click OK

Delete the corrupted folder and rename the backup folder to the corrupted folder’s name

If you are lucky and Outlook Express is not highly corrupted then you will get back your emails and data. Though, in cases of severe corruption, the folder may not be recognized and displayed. Then you need to repair the corrupted DBX file using 3rd party recovery programs.

Outlook Express Repair is a repair DBX tool with explicit features. It can repair highly damaged DBX files and efficiently recover emails, images, message properties, attachments. The best part, you can even recover deleted data and these are highlighted. It supports Unicode character recovery and even save data in DBX and EML file format. It is compatible with Outlook Express 4.0, 5.0, and 6.0. Have a free trial which is fully functional except that you can only use it to save the first ten files from every selected folder.

Perhaps there is a computer user, who does not know what Outlook Express is and for which purpose it is developed. Almost every computer user is familiar to MS Outlook Express. Though, almost all computer users know what MS Outlook Express is and many of them use it too, you will be surprised by knowing that many of the users of Outlook Express do not know how it stores emails and other data.

Yes, this is the surprising fact because people do not care about where and how their important emails, contacts, tasks, etc. are being stored. They become careful about this fact only when they come across data loss due to corruption in Outlook Express store, which generates the need to repair DBX file.

Outlook Express store (collection of DBX files) is the folder where user’s email, contacts, notes, sent items, drafts, etc. are stored in their respective DBX files. If the Outlook Express store or any of the dbx files gets damaged, user cannot continue using the software to send/receive emails. Moreover, the data stored in the dbx file will be lost. For example, if the inbox.dbx file gets damaged then all emails stored there will be inaccessible until the user does not repair dbx file.
This is how Outlook Express stores user’s data. Let us see the location where dbx files are saved. Execute the following steps to know the location of dbx files:

1.Start MS Outlook.
2.Select Tools > Options. The “Options” dialog box opens up.
3.Select the Maintenance tab.
4.Click the Store Folder button. The “Store Location” dialog box opens up.
5.Copy the location.
6.Now, open Windows explorer and paste the location in the address bar.
7.Press the ENTER key.

When you press the ENTER key, you will see several dbx files storing your data. You can now backup these files to deal with the situation of data loss. Yes, you can anytime come across the situation of data loss because dbx files can be damaged anytime due to logical or physical reasons. After that you either need to restore backup copies of dbx files or repair dbx files to retrieve lost emails.

Corrupt dbx file can be repaired using DBX repair software. The software performs fast and flawless repairing of the corrupt dbx files. Using the software dbx file created using any version of Outlook Express can be repaired seamlessly.

Working on Outlook Express, the most common problem that the Outlook Express users come across is that it doesn’t allows you to download the images by default. Instead of showing the embedded images, it displays a red X mark in the place of image and prompts the user with the following message:

“Some pictures have been blocked to help prevent the sender from identifying your computer. Click here to download pictures.”

This message is displayed right over the preview window of the email message. When you click this link, Outlook Express displays the related images. But why Outlook Express doesn’t display the images by-default.
You don’t need to look out for a possible fix dbx solution here, as the file is not corrupt. The reason behind such behavior of Outlook Express is the new Block images and allied content in HTML email security option. This option is selected to work by default in Outlook Express after you install Windows XP.

Also, this option gives you the flexibility to decide whether you want to avoid viewing the image (which might contain offensive material) or you wish to view the image. This option also minimizes the junk email messages that you get. However, if you wish to disable Block images and other external content in HTML e-mail option and fix dbx to display images, then you can do so, by following the instructions given below:

1.Click Start > Programs > Outlook Express
2.On the Tools menu, click Options and click Security tab
3.Deselect the Block images and other external content in HTML e-mail option
4.Click OK to exit

Note that the Block images and other external content in HTML e-mail option is enabled as a part of security feature in Outlook Express to save you from the horror of junk emails or spam and so it is recommended that this option must be turned on so that the profile owner downloads messages only from trusted sources.

Only messages from trusted sources can keep you away from Outlook Express corruption issues and so that you don’t have to fix DBX due to inaccessibility, damage or corruption. However, if the corruption strikes your Outlook Express database, we suggest you to rely on repair DBX file to fix dbx issues that make your email items inaccessible. Fix DBX tool is an eminent tool to repair DBX files and recover important email items from corrupt or inaccessible DBX files.

If dbx files are not protected against viruses and Trojans, then there will always be a fear of corruption. Once the dbx files are hit by viruses all emails, contacts, notes, tasks, etc. stored in them can become inaccessible.

Most of the computer users turn Firewall on to protect the data stored on their computer from being damaged due to virus or Trojan attack. Those, who think that turning on Firewall can save their computer data from virus contamination, are wrong. Turning on the Firewall will only generate an alert whenever a virus or Trojan enters the computer by any media like email attachment, Internet, USB drive, etc. but does not provide any security against the virus. Like other data stored on computer, DBX files can also come across some sort of corruption.

Once the dbx file has been corrupted, you may need to deal with abrupt behavior of Outlook Express like, you can access the email folders but cannot view their content, some error messages start appearing, etc. One of the common error messages that often occur when you access the damaged Inbox.dbx file is:

“An unknown error has occurred. Protocol: SMTP, Port: 0, Secure SSL: No, Error 0×800c0131Ce problem may be due to corruption or lack of Folders.dbx file.”

Unfortunately Microsoft does not provide any tool to fix corrupted dbx file. But, if you want to access your important emails, notes, contacts, tasks, drafts, etc. back as soon as possible, then you must have to repair the dbx file. You might be thinking that if Microsoft has not provided any tool to fix corrupted dbx file, then how you will do so.

Without third party dbx repair tools, it could be very difficult or even impossible to repair corrupted dbx file. If you have come across the aforementioned error message or facing abrupt behavior of Outlook Express then you can rely on any third party email recovery tool to fix or repair corrupted dbx file and recover important emails, contacts, drafts, and other related items.

Kernel for Outlook Express repair is a wonderful third party tool that helps you repair corrupted dbx file in just few minutes. After repairing the damaged dbx file, the software displays the recovered email items in their corresponding folders. Kernel for Outlook Express repair tool provides you the facility to preview the selected email before saving. The software supports all versions of MS Outlook Express for repairing corrupt DBX file.
